Additional information from Estes:
Please be aware of challenging travel conditions developing across the Great Plains this evening, impacting North Dakota, Northern South Dakota, and Central/Northern Minnesota (including the Twin Cities).
Current Outlook:
- Winter Storm Activity: Snow and blowing snow will continue through tonight, with the heaviest impacts expected late evening into early morning.
- Snowfall:
- Eastern ND & north-central MN: 4–6 inches, locally higher in some areas.
- Twin Cities: Light to moderate snow, with mixed precipitation possible early before temperatures drop.
- Wind & Visibility: Gusty winds will create drifting and blowing snow, reducing visibility—especially in open areas.
- Road Conditions:
- ND DOT: Travel alerts in effect; “No Travel Advised” possible if conditions worsen.
- MN DOT: Slippery roads and reduced visibility along I-94 and I-35 corridors; plows active but delays expected.
- Temperatures: Falling below freezing overnight, increasing risk of icy surfaces.
Impact on Operations:
- Expect linehaul delays and potential pickup/delivery suspensions in affected terminals into this evening, as at 1600-1800 the weather will worsen fast in the twin cities.
- Plan for additional transit time
- Ensure freezable freight is secured and not picked up today per the freezable guidelines and communicate proactively with customers regarding possible service disruptions.
